Halloween at the barn: Trot or Treat

Each year, Quest hosts a full week of “Trot or Treat” during therapy sessions, giving children the opportunity to practice trick-or-treating in a safe, supportive, and familiar environment. We recognize that this activity can be challenging for many families, and our goal is to help children build confidence and skills through guided practice.

During Trot or Treat, children move through our differing horse stalls within a structured experience where they practice greetings, waiting, transitions, and participation at their own pace. Instead of candy, we offer fun, non-edible fidget-style items, keeping the focus on skill development and sensory comfort.

Children are also encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes, allowing therapists to support sensory needs, identify potential challenges, and suggest modifications that can help families have a more successful and enjoyable Halloween experience.

Trot or Treat is one of the many ways Quest incorporates real-life skill practice into therapy, supporting both children and families beyond the clinic setting.
